You loved the parade; now it's time for green beer. Where are the best spots to spend your Tuesday night—or morning, if you won't be at the office? A few ideas, below and after the jump.
Food
The Black Rose offers a free Irish breakfast for the first 100 folks to arrive (from 6 to 10am).
Nosh on free corned beef sandwiches all day at Irish Village in Brighton.
Matt Murphy's in Brookline has traditional Irish food and a wide selection of whiskey.
Lucky Patricks and Patricias get free appetizers at Burtons Grill (Boston location only) today.
The Druid in Inman has a creepy gloworm creature hanging from its ceiling, plus tasty food and a range of beers.
Get a free Guinness at Grafton Street when you order off the St. Pat's menu. Wheels of the World will provide sweet Irish sounds. No cover.
When we think Om, we think Irish. Or not? Anyway, you can shell out $50 for fish 'n chips, potato cake, and other Irish-inspired goodies at Om.
Irish step dancers will accompany shepherd's pie and other treats at Blarney Stone.
Doyle's in JP will have a special Irish menu all week, so if you want to skip the $10 cover charge on Tuesday, just stop by for that infamous New England Boiled Dinner some other night. Other JP options: James's Gate has shepherd's pie; Brendan Behan is named after a real Irishman.
The Independent in Union Square is one of our favorite (if least accessible) places to drink, and once you start drinking it's hard to resist the food.
Staying home? Whip up some Guinness treats or try our Guinness cupcakes for St. Pat's.
Other options after the jump.
Drink
The Beehive's Frank Reardon has invented the "Matthew McConaughey":
2 oz Makers Mark
1 oz peach liquor
2 oz peach nectar
2 orange slices
2 oz water
fresh mint
Combine orange slices and apricot nectar and muddle; add ice, liquors and water, stir and garnish with orange slices and sprig of mint.
Could be tasty, though we're a bit befuddled about picking an only vaguely Irish Texan as the inspiration for a St. Pat's drink.
Faneuil may be the best place to get your raucous on, if by "best place" we mean "place you're most likely to spend a lot of money and get puked on." Choose from Ned Devine's, Green Dragon, Durty Nelly's, Bell in Hand, The Tap, and other places exist within stumbling distance of Faneuil and its not-Irish historicness. Celebrate! Further from Faneuil, Lir, McGreevy's, McGann's, Kinsale, JJ Foley's in the South End, and many more bars have booze. The magic of St. Patrick's day ensures that you will wait forever in line to pay a lot of extra money to drink this booze. That is really our kind of night.
Music
House of Pain jumps around at the Roxy, though you have to win tix on the radio (from WBCN 104.1FM or WAAF-FM 97.7/107.3 JAM'N 94.5) to attend.
Mollie's Misfits, Johnny Come Lately, and the Dave Foley band play Irishy tunes in the back of the Burren, while more traditional music can be heard in the front.
Matt and Shannon Heaton play at the Beehive, where you can hoist your Matthew McConaughey to Shannon's exquisite flute stylings.
Coffin Lids, The Throwaways, Buried In Leather, and Guns Of Navarone make for a scary St. Pat's (are we sure it's not Halloween) at Church
The Littlest Bar has live music.
Bell X1 flies into the Paradise. Not literally, but musically. Or something like that.
The Dropkick Murphys lay it down at the House of Blues.
The Lizard Lounge's Session Americana goes Irish for the evening.
Lil Wayne will be at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. She lick me like a... uh... shamrock? We don't know, either.
Other
ImprovBoston performs Slainte, a comic interaction based in an Irish pub.
Try out your two-handed bowling grip at Kings, or bowl at the Milky Way (while you still can!) as you listen to Shepherdess live.
The Brattle screens Leprechaun at 10pm, hearkening back to Jen Aniston's glory days and a time when we were scared instead of amused by horror movies. The Coolidge does nothing (surprise!), while the Somerville Theatre already brought us enough Irish.
We wonder, what did Concepts do to get its domain name disemvoweled? Regardless of any transgressions that may have occurred, House of Pain will be at Concepts at 3pm on St. Pat's to sign shoes and other paraphernalia related to the launch of some HoP sneaks.
Aer Lingus has fares to Ireland from $149 one way in May. Damn!
Are those not enough options for you? The Globe has an extensive list of events for St. Pat's. As for us, we recommend staying home with a bottle of Jameson and the Celtics game on TV (after you make some Guinness cupcakes). Cheaper, drunker, and less annoying than most actual bar experiences are likely to be on the 17th.
