Movies
It's the second night of the Boston Underground Film Festival, and our recommendation is to check out the Psychedelicinema shorts program. It features arty weirdness from up-and-coming experimental filmmakers like Roger Beebe and Ben Russell; Psychedelicinema might be the best thing on BUFF's schedule and it will probably be the least well-attended. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 5:30 p.m. $8.
Maceo
Maceo Parker is a saxophonist whose career is like a guide map to the history of funk. He's played with James Brown, George Clinton, and De La Soul, and is none the worse for wear. Performing tonight with Tukuaz. Harper's Ferry, 158 Brighton Ave., Allston, 9 p.m. $35.
Ends of Eras
Tonight marks the last live show at the Milky Way as the restaurant/lounge prepares to move to its new digs down the street. (We're sure that the landlord is thrilled to have a giant, vacant building on a distant Jamaica Plain corner in this economy.) Who does the honors? It's Samba Termeterra, who combines samba drumming with sexy dancers. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. $15.
New Music
The Boston Modern Orchestra Project pays homage to local composer John Harbison on the occasion of his 70th birthday, performing, for the first time, his 1991 revisions to his opera setting for Shakespeare's Winter's Tale. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m.
Release Parties
Not For Tourists is a nigh-indispensable resource for newcomers to Boston, and it's giving back the love tonight at its book release party. Featuring free copies of the guide book, food, and booze. Hong Kong Lounge, 1238 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 6 p.m. Free.
Burlesque
Boston Babydolls presents The Odditorium, a vaudeville style freak show featuring an actual snake charmer, burlesque dancers, and "The Human Floor." YMCA Theatre, 820 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $15.
