The Hockey East final was a great game to conclude two very good weeks of hockey. The Terriers of BU took home their seventh Hockey East championship by defeating the UMASS Lowell River Hawks. Kieran Millan posted 32 saves and was named tournament MVP en route to a 1-0 shutout, the 3rd in Hockey East finals history.
The Garden was alive as the two teams took the ice Saturday night, and the fans were in for a defensive battle. The lone goal of the night belonged to BU senior Brandon Yip who scored at the 18:38 mark in the first period on assists from senior John McCarthy and freshman David Warsofsky. The night was all about defense, and the Terriers came out ahead as they held fast against UMASS Lowell's 7 power plays, including a 5 on 3 in the third period.
UMASS Lowell Junior Nevin Hamilton had a solid night in his own right stopping 31 of 32 for a .968 save percentage. River Hawks UMass Lowell had two players, Scott Campbell and Maury Edwards, on the all-tournament team in addition to Terriers Gilroy, Wilson, and Millan.
BU heads off to the NCAA with a #1 seed and will be playing Ohio State in Manchester, N.H. on 3/28/09 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Sports Redux: One Goal, And One Goal Only

Way to mention how UML got completely jobbed on that goal that was not allowed in the second period that was absolutely and obviously a goal. Probably the pivotal moment of the entire game.
tape, Unfortunately I didn't see any replay in the arena and haven't had a chance to watch my DVR but it certainly seemed to be a borderline call. I'm anxious to see if the DVR shows anything.
