Everyone had legends on the brain on Monday, whether we fully realized it or not. In one case, the final (real-time, at least) words of a legendary story were being written; another couple of legends were continuing to add chapters to their tales. What it comes down to is the fact that a city that prides itself on its legends of old - with Williams, Orr, and Bird among them - is fortunate to have modern-day legends walking our streets.
The Curt Schilling Farewell Tour was an extravagant affair, with accolades online, on screen, on radio. Everyone busted out their finest compliments, including Schilling sparring partner Dan Shaughnessy, who said of the Big Schill, "I'm going to miss the big lug," before he referred to him as an uber-blowhard. Ah, Boston love. The overall consensus? Legendary story of the ultimate big-game pitcher.
While the Celts fashioned themselves a straightforward 90-77 victory over the Clippers on Monday night, the legend of Kevin Garnett was on people's minds. With a 12-point effort on Monday, KG is working his way back into gear and the Celts are winning. Good things, people, good things.
And, finally, there's the legend of Dice-K. Japan came out on top at the World Baseball Classic - again - and guess who got MVP - again? Our own Daisuke Matsuzaka. Let's just hope this translates to the baseball season that matters to all of us here in Boston: the one that kicks off April 6.
