Boston Latin: Reality Bites?

bostonlatin.jpg When we first reported on the news that there were vampire rumors swirling through the hallowed halls of Boston Latin, we, like just about anyone else who is at all plugged into pop culture, assumed that the vampires in question were of the sparkly, shipped-straight-out-of-Britain variety. It's all Twilight all the time these days.

That said, it turns out that the rumors that are spreading are much less Hollywood, much more troublesome. What's being conveyed from person to person (and now via message board postings) is that there are students who think that they are vampires. Down to biting and drawing blood.

The school and police have both denied that these claims are true; Headmaster Lynne Moone Teta urged the school community to keep these rumors at bay by not discussing them.

Well, that worked out really well.

We don't know what's going on - or not going on - within Boston Latin. But we do want to take this moment to say that if there is this type of activity taking place within the school, we urge administrators to do something about it. Teenage angst is one thing, but causing physical harm to themselves or others is something different. Even rumors that someone might be talking about causing physical harm is a reason to have discussion, not clamp down a gag order.

Shed some light on what sounds like an awfully shadowy subject.

Thank God someone FINALLY got a sliver of information correct! I am a junior at Boston Latin School, and this is the only article I've read thus far that does not portray BLS students as complete imbeciles that believe that vampires are truly invading our school. We do not fear nor believe in vampires; however, what concerns us is the increasingly disturbing actions of certain but few members of the class of 2012, who are mutilating themselves and others. There have been some startling rumors going around, and I sincerely think that the administration should address these methodically and ought to realize that our concern is directed towards the potentially dangerous actions of the students, rather than the ridiculous notion of vampires.

Remember the good old days when kids learned witchcraft from Harry Potter books? :)
