Man, do we love seeing the athletic equivalent of home movies: minor league footage and the "where was he then" stories that chronicle a rise to greatness. As we had a day off from regular season play on Monday (simma down, Sox fans, we'll get to it), we can focus our attention on the love letter written by the Globe to Bruins bruiser Milan Lucic, who we manage to forget (frequently) is a mere 20 years old.
The article follows the rise of our favorite hot-tempered hockey player out in the Vancouver area and provides us ample Lucic trivia. Did you know he's an accomplished alto sax player? But what's best is that it reminds us of the Shift - an absolutely ridiculous minute of play during the Memorial Cup in which Lucic managed to decimate three members of the opposing team. Three.
It also showcases the fact that he was rocking some hilarious sun-kissed hair. Check out those tresses!
Lucic and the rest of the Bruins will play host to the lightning tonight. We hope that Tim Thomas has been able to rest up, as we suspect that his physics-defying skills will once again be needed. Here's hoping that the defense steps up and surprises us.
On the parquet front, we need to take this moment to thank Gerry Callahan for informing us that a repeat Celtics championship title depends on the health of Kevin Garnett. And to think we were going all this time wondering what all the fuss was about with this guy.
If you've been wondering what all the fuss is about with Twitter, let's translate it into something that any Boston sports fan can understand: if you tweet, you could get Celtics tickets. From Paul Pierce.
And then we have the Red Sox. While the Sox lost to Atlanta yesterday, 4-3, there was a lot of good news. For instance, Dice-K wasn't wasting away pitches. He actually hit the 15-pitch-per-inning average. We know. Our mind's blown, too. In other news, Ortiz is ready to deliver some big hits, JD Drew is ready to hit in the 5-spot, and either Jeff Bailey or Chris Carter will get a spot on the roster. The last Grapefruit League home game comes this afternoon. At that point, it's all about two more spring training games, a couple of exhibition games at the new Citi Field, and then magic back at Fenway. Not that we're looking forward to it or anything.
