Boston's Newest Soccer Team

The Boston Breakers are back! No, not those Boston Breakers. Those Boston Breakers.

The 2009 edition of the Boston Breakers is part of the seven-team Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) that began play last Sunday in Carson, California. Boston's club debuts on Sunday at FC Gold Pride in Santa Clara, California.

The Breakers have two players even casual fans may know. Heather Mitts plays defense, was voted Sexiest Female Athlete by ESPN.com in 2004 and is engaged to Philadelphia Eagles back-up quarterback AJ Feeley. The Breakers also have their own A-Rod, in the person of the top WPS draft pick Amy Rodriguez.

Will Americans ever get soccer? Who knows? If we don't, it's not for a lack of trying by soccer aficionados.
