Review: Dr. Dog at Paradise, 4/3

What do you call a nearly-two hour set of the finest tunes that recall the Beatles, Beach Boys, and the Band? Just what the Doctor ordered. Dr. Dog that is. They may have one of the worst names of any rock band, but the Philadelphia quintet's melodious songs make all misguided attempts in nomenclature disappear.

Even after a hectic touring schedule, the band remained upbeat for the beginning of their newest country-wide trek; the group hopped and swayed while performing a set that relied heavily on the hit-parade of their last album Fate. Sandwiched between the opening tune "The Ark" and the official set-closer "The Rabbit, the Bat & the Reindeer" was an impressive set of deftly-performed, emotionally sweeping music that seemed to beckon the coming of summer. As the Paradise seemed to swelter while the sold-out crowd giddily danced the night away, Dr. Dog helped provide an excellent soundtrack to the start of those dreamy summer days and nights to come.
