The HFA's Kiju Yoshida retrospective moves into Yoshida's contemporary work with The Women in the MIrror (2002), his most recent film. Mariko Okada stars as the eldest of three women who struggle to find their common ties in the shared trauma of Hiroshima. Yoshida and Okada will be on hand to discuss the film. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., 7 p.m. $10.

Ice Cream

It's opening day, which means that productivity in area workplaces is going to mysteriously plummet around two o'clock this afternoon. To celebrate, JP Moos offers $1 ice cream cones. JP Moos, multiple locations, noon-9 p.m.

Purcell

Bostonist will be the first to sign up if English composer Henry Purcell rises from the grave as a zombie and assembles an international opera army. (Whether zombie Purcell would accept our services is another matter.) Celebrate his 350th birthday tonight when the NEC performs his Fantasias along with works from Schumann and Stravinsky. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.
