Sports Redux: Fashionably Late, Better Than Never

fenwaypanorama.jpg Ah, Opening Day in New England: sunshine peeking through the clouds on a Monday morning, happy smiling faces beneath Red Sox caps and above baseball jackets and shirts. We were a cautiously optimistic people hoping that the reports were wrong, the speculation was unfounded, that Fenway Park would open its doors and welcome the lucky 37,000 in...

Then the word spread. The rains came. People who took the day off were left with an open afternoon and no reason to go outside. There was no joy in this Mudville.

But we persevered! We battled the torrential downpours, we plodded through the puddles and now, Opening Day is here. Again. For real. Baseball is back in Boston.

(So help us, it had better be happening today. The forecasts sound good and we can't vamp this Sox/Rays showdown for yet another day.)

We set the stage yesterday and urge you to view it again like new. Really, the only thing that Monday's rainout did was leave all of us grumpy, screw up some plans and result in a change in the pitching schedule later this week (which really won't feel at all significant until we get through this first game).

As for today? Boston's baseball boys are back and ready to play.

While Opening Day will be at the forefront of people's minds today, the guys who kept us cheering and ranting all winter long will be continuing their winning ways (we're continuing the optimism) up in Canada. The Bruins face off against the Senators for approximately the 745th time this season.
