Dancing Hipsters
The Bloody Beetroots is a dance band out of Italy that fuses funk with fierceness. It owes an equal debt to Italo disco, prog rock, house, and post-punk, and the music that it makes is really better than that sounds. Tonight, it headlines the Throwed dance party, which also features E-Marce, B. Rich, the Blue Pages, and Letterday. Bill's Bar, 5.5 Lansdowne St., 9 p.m. $15.
New Music
The Boston Modern Orchestra Project winds up its performances of Lisa Bielawa's Synopses cycle, solo pieces composed for particular BMOP musicians. It's April's Club Concert, the occasion to hear great contemporary music in an intimate setting. Berio's solo voice work Sequenza III rounds off the program. Club Cafe, 209 Columbus Ave., 6 p.m. $20.
South American Jams
Bajofondo is an ensemble of Argentinian and Uruguayan musicians who fuse tango with hip hop and R&B. It's global music with a slinky bounce. Middle East Downstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 7:30 p.m. $15.
Movies
In the Mood for Love (2000), a Bostonist fave, might be Wong Kar-Wai's most widely screened film, at least outside of China. It is definitely his most often screened film in the Hub—the HFA unreeled it as recently as February. A moody, lush meditation on love, lust, and infidelity that will make you instantly drop your panties. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. Free.
