Boston’s blowin’ up. We got Passion Pit holdin’ down world tours on a major label, Magic Magic traversing the pond to woo the English, and the ever-vigilant Pretty & Nice shipping out for yet another nation-wide tour. And now we have Wild Light, playing the first gig at home since their album release tonight at Great Scott, and about to embark on a tour with the Killers. The goddamn Killers! In arenas! With the Killers! OMG!

It’s a good time to be a band in Boston (even though most of Wild Light hail from New Hampshire… and they really only sing about California… we’ll still claim them as our own). We wish we'd heard this album during the colder months of winter, because it’s all sunny, California-beach harmonies and shimmery, hazy guitars; ideal for some beers at the beach, or at the least, an elaborate daydream involving the aforementioned. The opening song from Adult Nights (and all around stand out track) “California on my Mind” recalls vintage, Harvest-era Neil Young with brief harmonica interludes and an accessible, indie-rock warble to singer Jordan Alexander’s delivery. The aptly named “Surf Generation” is bathed in waves of spindly reverb while Alexander croons soft remorse, a requisite happy-sad moment after three killer opening songs. Wild Light’s live show has the potential to inspire exultant, late-night sprinting through the streets. And if not, you can blame us.
