Boston University has the chance every NCAA Men's Ice Hockey team wants: to play in their sport's championship game. The top-ranked Terriers, 34-6-4, meet Miami University (23-12-5) for the NCAA championship. Bostonist has to say this Miami is in Ohio. Apparently, this is an issue for the RedHawks.
BU's student paper, the Daily Free Press, is providing extensive coverage. The paper profiles Matt Gilroy, who went from freshman walk-on to Hobey Baker Award winner in four years. The Daily Free Press refers to Gilroy as "Matty Ice," which was Matt Ryan's nickname at BC. Isn't being like BC a bad thing at BU?
The Herald's Frozen Four Notebook gives a lesson on chemistry and history, BU-style. We also got a mini-Shaughnessy (yes) comparison blurb on BU and Miami.
Speaking of Shaughnessy, he delivered today with a great story about hockey parents and what they mean to hockey players. Anne and Herm Lawrence of Saugus discussed their son and BU forward, Jason, and Sheryl and Jeffrey Higgins of Lynnfield talked about their son Chris, also a forward for BU. Jack Parker revealed that parents are crucial to recruiting.
The Globe also recapped the injury woes Higgins faced this season as BU's juggernaut rolled on towards a possible fifth title.
