Superdrag Tonight!

If Superdrag had unleashed their blast of powerpop greatness "Sucked Out" in '96 and were never heard from again, their name would still live on with true rock fans for ages.

Unfortunately, little was actually heard from the Knoxville quartet afterwards. One more song from the album Regretfully Yours was released to limited airplay, and the band sucked out one more album for Elektra before heading back to the indie scene.

Superdrag slugged it out for a few more years until the band's last show in 2003 at The Paradise. Tonight happens to be the band's second return to the venue since reuniting in '07.

Thankfully singer John Davis' bowl-cut hairdo is long gone, but the new album is still teeming with noisy guitars slashing around hooks like a bunch of mop-tops on steroids. Similar to contemporaries Nada Surf, Superdrag may turn out to be more potent after their one-hit-wonder era.

Boston's Cassavettes are supporting along with Mic Harrison & the High Score from Superdrag's hometown. Both bands are serving steaming cups of twangy rock. We've heard Cassavettes crank the roots-to-rock ratio up and down as it fits their mood, but the band always delivers the goods.
