We Live In Public is the work of Ondi Timoner (who directed the award-winning rockumentary Dig!). It's a documentary about an Internet tycoon whose work has implications that we are still grappling with. Josh Harris made a fortune developing Internet chat software and streaming video capabilities in the days before "AIM" was in our lexicon, at one point putting his entire life on 24-7 surveillance. Timoner examines this public figure whom most Americans today could never recognize, but whose actions and experiments with technology may have already determined a dire future for all of us. Part of IFF Boston. Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, Somerville, 9:45 p.m. (Leor Galil)
James Benning is one of the great experimental landscape filmmakers. His films have illuminated the political impact of environment and technology on the American wilds. RR (2007), which he has declared to be his final work shot on 16mm film, examines the train as a symbol of American development. Benning appears in person. Havard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $10.
Dance
GIMP is the brainchild of a Heidi Latsky, a choreographer who apprenticed with the Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. It combines the talents of four disabled dancers with four able bodied ones to demonstrate that virtuosity in movement can be more diverse than we suppose. Performed with live video projections. Institute for Contemporary Art, South Boston, 8 p.m. (through Saturday). $25/$20.
Festivals
The Megapolis Audio Festival is a venture sprawling from New York City to Cambridge that focuses on "DIY audio creation," which is code for experimental sound art. The festival takes place at various venues throughout Greater Boston, and the fun starts tonight with a weird music showcase sponsored by WZBC, Boston College's radio station. Featuring the Lothars, Radio Wonderland, Die Schrauber, the Boston Typewriter Orchestra, and Peace, Loving. Massasoit Elks Lodge, 55 Bishop Allen Dr., Cambridge, 6:30 p.m. $10/$7. More information.
