John Kerry says the newspaper industry, especially the Boston Globe, is not doing well. Captain Obvious. Granted. Bostonist knows why this is happening, Senator. Trust us. Senator Kerry has scheduled hearings anyway in May at the Senate Commerce Committee. Yes, even London is up to speed on our faltering print media.
Kerry's planned hearings come on the heels of the Boston Globe's come to Jesus moment with the New York Times. Kerry also publicly supported the Globe through a letter to the Globe "family".
The Boston Herald is seemingly enjoying the impending demise of the Globe, but printed Kerry's supportive letter. Today, the tawdry tabloid pointed out potential conflicts raised by the “Save the Globe” rally. If that wasn't enough, the Herald ripped off Letterman with the Top 10 ways to save the Globe, which was amusing.
Howie Carr completed the trifecta of haterade with a completely predictable rehashing of tired one-liners. Hey, at least Howie showed us, two days after Earth Day, he knows about recycling.
The Globe's employees seem to have noticed, too, and some skipped out on their jobs today to prove how much they want to keep them.
