Drinking in Boston: Happy B-Day CBC!

candles.jpg Well, they’re not quite old enough to drink yet, but they’re certainly old enough to celebrate a birthday in style. Cambridge Brewing Company is turning 20! On Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, both beer and fun will be flowing at the CBC in Kendall Square from 5pm to closing time.

The folks at CBC are promising “general ‘hoopla’” so brace yourselves: this “general ‘hoopla’” involves 20 different beers on tap. There’s one for every year, but we don’t recommend you try all of them in one night. Brewmaster Will Meyers has cooked up three anniversary beers to accompany the vintage brews available, and Executive Chef David Drew has created cuisine to pair with the special anniversary beers.

Our sources say the beers include: “Sgt. Pepper, a saison with peppercorns; Reckoning, a 100% Brettanomyces (wild yeast) ale fermented and aged in pinot noir barrels; and the return of Benevolence, a mysterious beer brewed with raisins and dates and aged in American bourbon barrels.” Their current seasonal brews, all of which you must try at some point, include Spring Training IPA (a great IPA if there ever was one), The Audacity of Hops (a “Belgian IPA” with a tremendously clever name), the Berliner Kendall (a style usually brewed only in Berlin; tart and champagne-like), and the Bitchin’ Bitter (which doesn’t need much of an introduction), among others.

And there’s more! The outdoor patio area is morphing into a beer garden. To ensure the party keeps going no matter what the weather, they are even providing tents. On Saturday there will be bands playing on the patio beginning at 7pm. The ‘hoopla’ then continues with raffles and prizes. So come on over to the CBC birthday party May 8th and 9th at 5pm!
