Movies
The Brattle concludes its Jim Jarmusch retrospective with a surprise: a sneak-preview of his newest film The Limits of Control. Set in contemporary Spain, it's the story of a man outside the law who must complete a mysterious mission. With cinematography from Christopher Doyle, the mastermind behind In the Mood for Love. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. Free (first come, first-served, line starts at 6:30 p.m.).
Dancing Hipsters
Peanut Butter Wolf once claimed that his vinyl weighs a ton, which might be why the west coast hip hop producer has left it behind tonight in favor of a clutch of music videos. Performing with James Pants, Mayer Hawthorne, and Dam-Funk. Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave., 9 p.m.
Anniversaries
Felix Mendelssohn would be 200 this year if he had been born a vampire instead of a composer. But, since he wasn't, there's plenty of music to enjoy to commemorate the anniversary. A star studded cast of NEC professors presents an all-Mendelssohn program, including Quintet in B-flat Minor, Op. 87, Nocturno for Winds, and excerpts from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.
Cyberart
New media artists Mark Skwarek and Joseph Hocking have assembled Children of Arcadia, an interactive representation of a Baroque-style painting that portrays either a utopia or a post-apocalyptic ruin, depending upon information from a live news feed. Part of both the Cambridge Science Festival and the Boston Cyberarts Festival. CAC Gallery, 344 Broadway, Cambridge, 6 p.m. Free.
