We were among the last stalwarts of the pro-Manny side of last year's big Red Sox controversy, but we can admit when we were wrong. Looks like the Red Sox dodged a bullet, since Manny's now suspended for 50 games for a positive steroid test, according to an ESPN/LA Times report. Manny, hitting .348 for the scorching Dodgers, might blame the test on something his doctor gave him, which doesn't sound fishy at all. We'll let you know more when we know more, and if you're going to link this to David Ortiz' sudden lack of power this season, well, you may not be the only one.

I want to second the retraction of pro-Manny sentiments. I guess I have to stop needling Sox fans about him now.
Jason Bay has outpaced Manny in RBIs this season anyway, with Youk's stat line looking almost the same as Manny's. So, if he can use his time off to bring Papi back his, um, pop, the Sox will be in good shape even without him.
i'm as shocked that baseball players are still juicing in this era of testing as i am that manny was the one who was caught. of course, with manny being who he is, it's possible that he only started doing steroids like last week.
Manny is also one of the few I'd believe if he said he didn't know he was doing steroids, even if there was a big red bottle labeled "STEROIDS" in his locker. Ignorance is no excuse, however.
Sox fans ripping Manny reminds me of ">recent Bostonist interviewee Jay Mohr's routine, which I have to admit is pretty funny.

I'm surprised Manny tested positive because I didn't think he had the brain power to consciously cheat. But, I was pro-Sox in the deal.
FYI - I was at the game after knee-gate and have a pic of Manny exiting the scoreboard.
A couple thoughts since my last post got an error..
#1 - This sucks since I can't pick on my friends who are Yankees fans about A-fraud and Giambi anymore.
#2 - It looks like Manny is just going to accept the suspension while proclaiming his ignorance.But Scott freakin' Boris isn't going to appeal it? HAHAHA Wow.. Might as well say "Hell yeah He did it!". I think someone at MLB told Manny to take the suspension and drop it or else.. Or else what? I have no idea but I can't see Boris not being all over this.
