Fortunately, Brookline is defying its shut-storefronts trend with a new solution to your mom-present worries: Melt, a new store selling good-smelling handmade bath products of the type that (some) moms (and some dads!) love. Located right next door to the Kabloom flower shop—how convenient for those seeking a gift—in Coolidge Corner, the soothingly arranged Melt also provides a more pleasant shopping alternative to the stark and oddly lit Body Shop down the street.

Melt offers cool-looking marbled soaps, light lotions, body butter, body washes, scrubs, bath salts and more in scents ranging from Lickin' the Beaters (vanilla cake batter) to Circus of Pears (not sure what's circus-y about it, but it smells great) to Just Plain Nonsense (the scent-free option). You can assemble your own collection of goodies or buy a pre-made gift basket. It's a fine place to wander and try out new things, or just grab a quick present.

The Coolidge Corner Melt is the Colorado-based company's first franchise in the area. Local owners Howard and Tim plan to open another store in Provincetown over Memorial Day weekend, so you can soon get your scented groove on out there as well. And even if you never set foot in Melt, its delicious smell will still enhance a visit to Coolidge Corner.
