Weekly Music Picks

We're a little late. Again. Ahem. Er. This is awkward. So without further ado, here are our weekly music pics.

Tuesday May 12th

Illinois celebrate their CD release at Great Scott tonight. They’ve released several tracks a month for the past six and finally have them collected on one disc. We reviewed their last show here.

There’s some sort of comedy show at O’Brien’s tonight. Anything that isn’t face melting metal at O’Brien’s is out of character, so this is bound to be interesting. Were we responsible reporters, we’d do more research. 21+ - $8 - 9pm

Weeiirrdddd. There’s another comedy show at the Middle East Upstairs. 18+ - $8 - 8pm

Wednesday May 13th

Hooray For Earth
will downtune their guitars to the sludgy depths of an A and still maintain huge, anthemic guitar hooks. Their live shows are prone to mic stand guitar slides and general rock n’ roll recklessness. Frontman Noel Heroux also looks a lot like Kurt Cobain. HFE at P.A’s Lounge tonight. 18+ - $7 - 8:30

Dan Deacon brings his bleeps and bloops to the Middle East Downstairs tonight. All Ages - $10 - Sold Out

Atmosphere is droppin’ beats and spittin rhymes at House of Blues Tonight. Did that sound cool? Word. All Ages - $20 - 8 pm

A dude named Canibus is playing Harper’s Ferry. I bet he likes pot and stuff. 18+

Thursday May 14th

Paper is at Harper’s Ferry tonight. Drink some sparkx and remember what it was like to be a 17 year old girl with an 18 year olds ID. Oh the memories.

Animal Collective at Hob! OMGOMGOMGOMG! Maybe the only way to have an out of body experience without drugs. Their live show is a religious experience. All Ages - $20 - 8 pm

Friday May 15th

Dance the night away at the Pill at Great Scott. This week there’s a super secret guest! Our bet is Obama. 18+ - 9 PM - $5

The Easy Star All Stars, masterminds behind dub covers like Radiodread, Dread Side of the Moon and their new Lonely Hearts Dub Band play the Middle East Downstairs tonight, supported by Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, who sound exactly how you’d think. 18+ - $17

Saturday May 16th

Get all glitzed and glammed to see the B-52’s at HoB tonight. Seeing “Love Shack” live is worth cover alone. All Ages - $36 - 8 pm

Campaign For Real-Time play an Eighties Prom at Great Scott tonight. We're not sure what that means either, but if anyone can guarantee an authentic eighties prom, it's these self-proclaimed time travelers.

Sunday May 17th

A bit of a lackluster night in town. Anyone know of anything cool we should include?
