Electronic Pop

Baltimore's Dan Deacon went to conservatory, a fact that you can hear when his music nods at Pierre Henry, Eric Satie, or John Adams. The Charm City musician performs only using custom-built wave oscillators, and his debt to composers past can quickly be forgotten as you find yourself trying to disentangle from the spiderweb of bubblegum that they weave. Poppy. Performing with Future Islands and Teeth Mountain. The kids really like this guy, so show up early. Middle East Downstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8 p.m. $10.

Wine

Our old friends at The Second Glass host another Crash Course seminar so that you can drink wine knowledgeably. Today, the Crash Course pits the wines of Argentina against the upstarts of Chile in South American throwdown. Downtown Wine and Spirits, 225 Elm St., Somerville, 7 p.m. $10.

Movies

It was inevitable that Cinemental, Boston's weird and queer film group, would get a night at Boston's LGBT Film Festival. The group presents the experimental short program Channeling, curated by Chicago's Ethan White and Latham Zearfoss Channeling. The films in the program address the "ghost stories" underlying film technology and their intersections with queer themes. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 9:30 p.m., $10/$8.

Gospel

The NEC isn't always about Stockhausen marathons. Sometimes it's also about that old time religion. The NEC Community Gospel Choir shares a program of a capella choral music with the Conservatory Camerata. The evening will include both secular and relgious compositions, including work by George Emlen and Donnell L. Patterson, who will conduct the ensembles. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.
