Sports Redux: Seven's Up

After twice completing three-day sweeps of its possible games, Boston was due for a little balance. It arrived on Thursday to usher out the Bruins, lingered on Friday to pester Jon Lester and left Red Sox fans nervous if they turned off their TVs before midnight on Saturday. Today is all about restoring a sense of order. Boston lost Game Seven on the ice, today it hopes to win Game Seven on the parquet.

Patrick Ewing might not be on board the Celtics Championship v2.0 wagon, but that's vintage Ewing being Ewing and actually works in Boston's favor. Much of the NBA's focus might be on the showdown out West, but that's hardly surprising. You know that in Boston, the bars will be packed on a Sunday night, it's going to be exciting and the Celts are as ready as they can be. 'Nuf said.

On the baseball front, there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that the Red Sox got the job done in Seattle on Saturday night, winning 5-3 and featuring home runs from Jason Bay, Jason Varitek and Jeff Bailey. The bad news is that while Josh Beckett picked up the win, he's still not looking like the pitcher we remember back in '07 and he continues to, with Jon Lester, make fans wonder how our bullpen can impress us so much more than our starting rotation. Pitch count continues to be an issue - while Terry Francona's decision to keep Beckett in in the seventh on Saturday night paid off, it came after Beckett pitched 109 in six innings and made us worry. Greatly.

Not entirely inaccurate. We are talking about Beckett here.
