Movies
Few movies about movies are as well-loved as Cinema Paradiso (1988), an Italian sentimental comedy about a projectionist who comes of age. Is it sappy? Yes. Are we suckers for it? Yes. You owe it to this movie to see it on the big screen. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline, 7 p.m. $9.75/$6.75.
Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne represent the latest great hope for Belgian realist filmmaking. Nonetheless, their early work remains little known and infrequently screened. To remedy matters, HFA presents a retrospective of their work, including Falsch (1987), their first feature film, which screens tonight. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $8/$6. More information.
Freak Outs and Burgers
Charlie's Kitchen has been featuring a wide range of weird music on Mondays recently, and tonight is no exception. Night Moves, which may or may not be a Bob Seger cover band, joins free music weirdos Eli Keszler, Kate Village, and Dr. Oriental. Charlie's Kitchen, 10 Eliot St., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $5.
Bartending for Hipsters
Have repeated trips to Green Street, Drink, and Eastern Standard (or the descriptions of such trips in this blog) given you inspiration to mix a few classic cocktails at home? Are you a hipster or do you have a high tolerance for hipsters and their paraphernalia? Then it's time for a trip to Grand for the Boston Shaker's Home Bar Basics class, which covers stirring, shaking, measuring, and pouring booze. Grand, 374 Somerville Ave., Somerville, 6:30 p.m. $30. Tickets.
