Weekly Music Picks: Hallelujah!

weeklymusicnewbanner.jpg

At long last, this Bostonist will get a chance to see one of her favorite local acts, Hallelujah the Hills, live this week. And they'll be accompanied by some of our other favorite people. Friday's show alone would make it a worthwhile week, but there's even more being offered in the venues of Boston over the next few days. Check it out!

Tuesday, May 19

St. Vincent at Somerville Theatre
Part of the consistently amazing WorldMusic/CRASHarts tour, Annie Clark brings her vocal interpretations of movies to Davis Square.
7:30 pm, $22

Wednesday, May 20

Animal Hospital at PA's
One of our favorite venues hosts one of our weirdest local acts. Think Animal Collective, but wounded and even more electro.
8:30 pm, $7 21+ / $10 18-20

The Shins at the Orpheum
A band that hasn't done a whole lot in a little while, at a venue undergoing transition. Worth $30? We're still suckers for "Kissing the Lipless," so yes. Maybe?
7:30 pm, $30

Thursday, May 21

Jeff Who? at Felt
Jeff Who who? is what we asked upon first hearing of this Icelandic group, and we're not sure what to expect of any show at Felt, but hey—like we said, the band's Icelandic. And poppy and fun and possibly even capable of making you smile.
8:30 pm, $8 (free with college ID!), 21+

Holy Fuck at Middle East
with Crocodiles, Hooray For Earth
Perhaps the exact opposite of Jeff Who, Holy Fuck terrify with dark, mysterious electronic beats that capture your heart, pluck out your eyes, and suck out your soul simultaneously.
8 pm, $9 advance / $10 doors, 18+

The Field at Middle East
with The Juan MacLean
Another electrogroup, this one from Sweden.
9 pm, $12, 18+

Friday, May 22

Hallelujah The Hills, Bon Savants, Magic Magic, Cymbals Eat Guitars, You Can Be A Wesley at Middle East Downstairs
Even leaving aside how many awesome people we know in these awesome bands, this is sure to be an awesome show. The sheer variety of bands, and the range each band displays individually, guarantee an enjoyably textured concert experience. And can we say awesome once more? Awesome.
9 pm, $10 advance / $12 doors, 18+

Saturday, May 23

The National at House of Blues
The National put on an electric, emotional live show that's more than worth braving the HoB lines and flashlights for. Trust us.
7 pm, $22

Rex Complex at Lizard Lounge
This Bostonist once had a Halloween party for which the Rex Complex provided music. It is no longer Halloween, but the band's African-inspired beats will still put the spirit in you. An excellently cozy alternative to the HoB.
8 pm, $10, 21+
