Drinking in Boston: Beer Benefit

beersampler.jpg All the proceeds from tonight’s “Drink a Better Brew” five-course beer dinner at Masona Grill will benefit the nonprofit West Roxbury Main Streets. Main Streets aims “to promote and enhance businesses in the Centre and Spring Street corridor” in West Roxbury. It’s hard to pass up a five-course beer dinner on its own, but when the proceeds go to a good cause, it seems almost wrong to.

Matt Webster, former Dogfish Head employee, is also the “Supreme Chancellor” of drinkabetterbrew.com. Webster will be pairing all courses, which are prepared by Masona’s executive chef and owner, Manny Sifnugel, with craft beer. All beer is donated by Avery Brewing Company and Blanchard’s Liquor. In other words, no matter what you get, it’s going to be good. Better yet, the head brewmaster of Dogfish Head who Webster studied under recently published a book titled, He Said Beer, She Said Wine, about the pairings of different drinks with different foods. Odds are then, that Webster too knows what he’s talking about.

The event takes place tonight, Thursday, May 21 at 7pm at Masona Grill, 4 Corey St., West Roxbury. Tickets for “Drink a Better Brew” must be purchased in advance, so if a huge beer dinner sounds good to you, you better act fast. Costs are $65 per person and $125 per couple. Admission includes the dinner and drinks as well as entry into a raffle. Reserve tickets at wrms.org (under “2009 Events”) or by calling Main Streets at 617-325-6400.
