Way Out West: Mass MoCA's 10th Anniversary Party

Thankfully Massachusetts is such a compact state that you can get to any spot in less than 3 hours (depending on traffic). One of the most farthest-flung spots—from Boston, at least—is Mass MoCA in North Adams.

With its massive conceptual and contemporary art galleries created out of repurposed industrial space, the museum also has impressive performance facilities. This weekend will be the 10th anniversary celebration of the museum which has grown both in physical size as well as in stature over the past decade.

Mass MoCA has had countless live performances since it came into being. If you've ever been to one, you know there is a reason why they are called "parties": that's because they are set up nicely with themed foods and cocktails, decorations, and other amenities that makes the experience much more than just seeing a performer play at some venue. This weekend will be no exception as the incredible Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings (see LAist review) are the headlining performer at the 10th anniversary auction, reception, and ball.

Check out the event site and see about getting to Mass MoCA. The Berkshires are a beautiful place to visit no matter what is going on at any of the myriad of museums and performance spaces in the county. It's always been a mystery to us as to why there is such a migration from Boston north into Maine, rather than west to the Berkshires where there is so much to do and see.

We'll be reporting on many more events at Mass MoCA and the Berkshires this summer, so stay tuned.
