Sheesh, Mets. The Red Sox open the gates of fabled Fenway to you and yours and how do you thank us? Storming the place with Johan Santana's arm blazing and giving Dice-K a 5-3 loss during his first game back with the Sox. Way to show your appreciation.
The lesser evil of New York City baseball made its return to Boston on Friday night for the start to interleague play. The Mets arrived riding a four-game losing streak and with a starting pitcher who had struggled mightiliy during his previous four appearances at Fenway. Mix that with the return of Dice-K and it should be a good night of Red Sox baseball...
...until Santana managed to overcome multiple errors from his defense, pitched a sharp game against the Sox and sparked some tension when he plunked Kevin Youkilis during the fifth inning. Not even the eighth home run from the suddenly hot Jason Varitek could help turn things around for the hometown team. Instead, Boston focuses on revenge today - with the hope that Josh Beckett delivers from the mound.
