Boston Blotter: Mother Shot to Death in Front of Kids; Rockefeller to Be Known as "The Defendant"

-- Deanna Watkins, a 29-year-old mother, was shot to death Thursday night in front of her children at their home in Mattapan. Watkins had a troubled history, having drifted in and out of homeless shelters, and police believe that she was targeted by the masked gunman who killed her. [Herald; BPDNews]

-- The Alleged Criminal Formerly Known as Clark Rockefeller will be called "defendant" during his trial. Rockefeller, who was born Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, and his attorneys believed that referring to him by his given name would be prejudicial for the jury since he has been charged with giving police a false name. -- Boston cops nabbed a pair of suspects shortly after an alleged shooting on Cambridge Street, Downtown, early Sunday morning. The victim sustained a non life threatening wound to his leg. [BPDNews]

-- A 52-year-old Allston man allegedly took out his rage against a neighbor's dog by attacking the animal with hot coffee. No connection to the Allston Blanchard's has been alleged. [BPDNews]

-- Chanequa Campbell, the Harvard senior who was suspended by the university following the murder of Justin Cosby last week, has claimed that she was targeted because, in her words, "I'm black and I'm poor and I'm from New York and I walk a certain way and I keep my clothes a certain way."
