Displaying little loyalty toward Brookline-born Conan O'Brien (as opposed to New York–born Jay Leno), Globe commenters wish failure on O'Brien as he prepares to take over The Tonight Show from Leno tomorrow evening. Comments quickly escalate from assigning O'Brien "little talent" to awarding him "no talent" to calling him a "total tiurnoff [sic]" and predicting "conan will tank." Some even accuse NBC of promoting an Obama agenda through O'Brien's assignment (which was made long before the election, right down to the date of the transition).
Why the hatred, Globesters? We're actually happy to see NBC mix things up a little (only a very little—remember that Leno will still be on every night, just at 10 pm rather than 11:35). Some theorize that "PEOPLE WILL GO 2 SLEEP AFTER THE LENO SHOW @ 10 PM," which may be true: as our favorite comment points out, "For years, folks have watched Leno because they are too lazy to get out of bed and switch the channel after the 11 PM news. Then Mildred wakes up to the sound of Chauncy's snoring and has to use the clapper to turn off the tv." Maybe Leno will put people to sleep before the news? Let's hope that O'Brien can keep folks awake and entertained until the end of the show each night. We'll be watching tomorrow to see how it turns out.
