Grillo's: Damn Fine Pickles on the Common

grillos-pickles.jpg Bostonist is a pickle maniac. We've been known to take $30 round-trip bus excursions to New York City just to bring back a quart of Guss's Pickles. So, when were alerted to the presence of anthropomorphic pickle beings wandering the Common, we had to check it out.

The results? Delicious. The Grillo's Pickles stand has been dishing out crispy dills at 2 spears a dollar in front of Park Street station for the past two weeks or so. Travis Grillo, the stand's proprietor, calls his product "Italian pickles" because they are made according to his Italian grandfather's recipe. Vinegar-based, Grillo's pickles are a different beast from what you'd get on the Lower East Side, but the world has room for more than one kind of pickle, especially when they taste as good as Grillo's.

If you want to buy more than a couple of spears, Travis Grillo will sell you a quart of pickles for six bucks—a good deal, considering the pickles retail in some fancy grocery stores at fourteen bucks a quart.

Worried whether the cart will be open on a rainy day? Grillo's has a Twitter that also gives you updates on trends in Boston's pickle palate ("Guy just ate 4 spears it only 10:30 am I like that!").
