Weekly Music Picks: Indie Rock Showdowns!

weeklymusicnewbanner.jpg
There's a good deal of shows going on this week, with many indie acts and hyped-up bands performing on the same night. What to do, what to do?! Passion Pit vs. Dirty Projectors on Thursday! The Antlers vs. Condo F***s vs. Patrick Wolf on Sunday! Better Than Ezra vs. nostalgia on Saturday! Who will win? You decide!

Monday, June 15:

Black Dice
w/Alec K Redfearn, The Seizures, Awesome Color, Many Mansions, Eat Cloud, Bone Rattle, Double Awake
at Outside The Lines Studio

Bring the noise! Or rather, have Black Dice provide that for you, as the New York noisenicks present their critically acclaimed/repulsed (depending on who you talk to) new album Repo at a show sponsored by Bodies of Water Arts & Crafts.

Tuesday, June 16:

Bon Savants
at Great Scott

Swing by Great Scott for the greatest show in town tonight, and you can't go wrong with Boston's own indie-poppers, Bon Savants.

Wednesday, June 17:

Phoenix
w/Amazing Baby
at Paradise

Here's a little bit of French culture most American's might confuse for their own home-grown indie act with a sweet pop streak. Not so USA, not so. Wipe your tears away with whatever preferred brand of tissue after learning that fact, Lady Liberty. That, and if you haven't bought tickets, you won't be able to hear "Lisztomania" live either.
Sold Out

Pansy Division
w/The Fatal Flaw, The Motion Sick
at TT The Bears

Sure, pride is over, but the party continues when preeminent queercore band Pansy Division hit the stage at TTs. They've got a fan in Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, and, soon enough, in you (no pun intended).

Thursday, June 18:

Passion Pit
w/Harlem Shakes, Cale Parks
at Paradise

Welcome back from that little place of inhabitation under a rock. It's 2009, Barack Obama is president, Pixar made an summer sensation about a cranky old dude, and this band Passion Pit is all the rage.
Sold Out

Would you look at how people dress in 2009?! Image of Passion Pit taken from the band's Myspace page.

Dirty Projectors
w/Vieux Farka Toure
at Somerville Theatre

If you caught these folks opening for TV On The Radio just a couple of weeks ago, you know just what kind of a concert they can play. Swing by Somerville for the chance to experience a performance by the band that many are saying created the album of the year.

Major Lazer
w/A-Track, Matt & Kim, Steve Porter
at House of Blues

Diplo! Switch! A-Track! Matt & Kim! This guy! If you go to House of Blues tonight, you will never stop dancing! Never!

All These Kings
w/The Constellations, Bacchus King, Left Hand Does
at O'Brien's

Want some local flavor? Head over to Allston, where the critically-overlooked indie rock group All These Kings headlines a great lineup of Boston bands.

Friday, June 19:

Cracker
w/Adam Ezra Group
at Middle East Downstairs

These guys were the missing link at EarthFest a few weeks back. Get "Low" and experience the 90s all over again and again at the Middle East Downstairs.

Saturday, June 20:

Better Than Ezra
w/Tyrone Wells
at Paradise

I remember running through the wet grass/These guys were oh so kind/To my nostalgic urges/desperately wanting (my youth back)
Actually, Better Than Ezra has never stopped releasing new material - radio stations just stopped playing it. See what they're up to at the Paradise.

Ho-Ag
w/MEandJOANCOLLINS, Ketman, The Main Drag
at Great Scott

Have you experienced the mathy, dark and odd sounds that make up Ho-Ag? If not, treat yourself at Great Scott.

Sunday, June 21:

The Condo F***s
w/The Bevis Frond, Sleepyhead
at TT the Bears

Condo F***s are merely Yo La Tengo in disguise, a "nice" little act of pseudonym that allows the trio to perform their favorite cover songs.

Sold Out - some tickets available at the door

Nylon Summer Music Tour featuring Patrick Wolf
w/Living Things, Plastiscines, and Jaguar Love
at Middle East Downstairs

Nylon Magazine has assembled quite a random assortment of artists for a national tour - should be quite a turnout at the Middle East Downstairs.

Cotton Jones, The Antlers
at Middle East Upstairs

Cotton Jones may be headlining this show, but The Antlers will be the band to catch. NPR has named the group's self-produced album Hospice the best record of the year so far, and expect even more accolades to follow when Frenchkiss releases the album online a couple of days after this show. Better catch them at the Middle East Upstairs before The Antlers go the way of Bon Iver or Fleet Foxes and you can't sell a kidney to get into their show.
