Movies, Beer
As we mentioned last week, the Brattle has started serving beer, and reports from the ground claim that the beer it is serving is delicious. To celebrate its newfound freedom to extract huge amounts of money from the beer guzzling hordes, the theater is screening the beer drenched zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead (2004), which was the one that Bostonist voted for in the Brattle's audience poll. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. Tickets.
Rock
Boston's Guillermo Sexo is a guitar rock band that makes psychedelic music as seen through the lens of mid-90s post punk revivalists, or maybe just Fugazi. Joining them tonight is Brooklyn's These Are Powers, which makes a gloriously disjointed racket. PA's Lounge, 345 Somerville Ave., Somerville, 8:30 p.m. $7/$10.
New Music
It's the second night of NEC's Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, and tonight's piano-heavy program includes Stockhausen's masterpiece Kontakte as well as work by Giacinto Scelsi, Salvatore Sciarrino, Alessandro Solbiati, and Jo Kondo. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.
