BostonTV: Merlin TV

John "I'm a PC" Hodgman gave a speech at the 2009 Radio and TV Correspondents' Dinner on Friday night in which he stood up for geeks the world over. Calling Obama the head of the first nerd administration ever, proud Son of Brookline Hodgman quizzed the President on Dune canon and ended with a Vulcan salute.

Nothing we can do or say will ever top the sheer nerdiness of this speech... but... it's important for you to know that tonight, we're watching a show called Merlin. Here's why you should, too.

Believe it or not, the BBC show will follow legendary wizard Merlin as he joins Uther Pendragon's court. Name sound familiar? Uther is father to future Camelot shining star, King Arthur.

Ooh. Did everyone catch that shot of Lancelot/Launcelot? No?

You're welcome.

We make no bones about our considerable interest in Arthurian scholarship here at Bostonist: we slogged through The Once and Future King, believe The Green Knight to have one of the best twists of any short story EVER, and considered dabbling in paganism after the fifth read through of Mists of Avalon. How could this TV series possibly stack up?

There is someone CAST AS A DRAGON.

Enough said.

Merlin premieres tonight at 8PM on NBC. For a laugh, check out John Hodgman at the Correspondents' Dinner:
