Every year, folks in Boston try to find alternatives to spending Independence Day on the Charles, amidst the crowds. There are many facets to the American experience and many different ways to celebrate the founding of our nation.
And what's more American than making fun of poor people?
It's a question that you don't have to ask the hipsters of Cambridge. According to the Cambridge Chronicle, the Lizard Lounge, the swanky Cambridge nightclub, will host its sixth annual "White Trash Party," and the trappings—swiped from the middle class's treasure trove of cliches about poor people—couldn't be more hilarious:
free wife beaters for the ladies, go-go dancers, a “Teenie Weenie Bikini” contest at midnight, and free pork rinds, this Independence Day event is straight out of the trailer park.
The only thing that's missing from this lovely tableau is a blazer-sporting Massachusetts liberal to sneer at everybody. Oh, wait.

I can only imagine Labor Day will feature a "Dress Up Like a Laid-off Worker Party."
They should at least aim for accuracy. Men wear the wife beaters, last I checked.

While I agree with the level of adsurdity around this theme... there is nothing about the Lizard Lounge that could ever be described as swanky. Divey. Eccentric. But not swanky. Snark is generally better when you've done the legwork to back it up.
any place where the skinny-jeans-to-normal-jeans ratio exceeds one can hardly be described as "divey."
It's not divey. But if a place lets people with jeans in at all, it's not swanky
you may have had a point 20 years ago. jeans are swank in this decade.

Just to get it right, "white trash" if you think about it, is a racist phrase. We don't say "black trash" as it's assumed as normal.
Try not to use this phrase. It's continues a bad part our history. Trailer trash works just as well.
