Movies

How well has Easy Rider (1969) aged? Does Dennis Hopper's landmark motorcycle movie, which pit the counter-culture against the squares, seem kind of heavy-handed today? Hammy? Does the LSD freak-out sequence seem contrived? There's only one way to find out. Watch the restored print of the film at the Brattle. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, through July 7. Tickets and showtimes.

Mexican Music

Local Mexican son outfit La Tuza claims to be the "only Mexican roots band in New England," and its repertoire runs the gamut of son styles. The band celebrates its CD release tonight with Balkan roots band Kafana. Lizard Lounge, 1667 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8:30 p.m. $8.

Garage Rock

Jay Reatard is a garage rock dynamo from Memphis whose music owes as much to Stiff Records as it does to the Tennessee roadhouse. His shows are sort of legendarily mercurial, so don't do anything to piss him off. Performing with TV Smith and Pretty and Nice. Harper's Ferry, 158 Brighton Ave., Allston, 8 p.m. $12.

Reggae

Trans-Charles reggae action tonight. In Somerville, it's Toussaint and Green Lion, performing a funk-fused roots sound. Across the river in JP, it's The Guardian Sound System, on a roots throwback tip. Johnny D's, 17 Holland St., Somerville, 9 p.m. $10, and Alchemist Lounge, 435 S. Huntington, Jamaica Plain, 10:30 p.m. Free.

Dancing Hipsters

DJ Contra, an erstwhile member of MIA's crew, joins Boston's stand-out DJ Ghostdad and Huggs for an independence day throwdown in JP. It's the rare instance where freedom actually is free. Milky Way Lounge, 284 Amory St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
