The Suffolk County DA has just reported that James A. Walker, the alleged Dorchester gang banger known as "Gunna," was arrested today on charges that he murdered a man during a gang beef in 2006. Walker, whom prosecutors suspect of leading the notorious Lucerne Street Doggz street gang, was doing time for a 2007 drug bust when he was arrested this afternoon. He had violated his probation in January when he was caught with a gun in his car.

Walker is charged with the July 22, 2006 killing of 20-year-old Antoine Perkins and another, non-fatal shooting. The alleged crimes were a part of a series of retaliatory shootings that left five dead in the course of a week.

In 2007, Boston police told reporters that Walker had earned the sobriquet "Gunna" "due to his penchant for firearm-related violence and [he] has this name tattooed on his right hand."

Walker's gang, the Lucerne Street Doggz, had been all but wiped out by the 2007 drug investigation that nabbed Walker. Today's arrest might close the book on the era when the gang dominated the streets of Dorchester through bloodshed and intimidation.
