The weather may be bad for sunbathing, but it’s always good weather for drinking beer! Several events are slated for July in the New England area that will properly celebrate the beverage.
Tonight Amstel Light comes to Boston on their nationwide tour, Amsterdam Live. At Parris Hall in the Faneuil Hall Market, Amstel is promoting their beer: “One Dam Good Bier.” (Groan.) But the event itself is modeled after Amsterdam’s “Melkweg,” a nightclub “featuring five different art forms, all under one roof.” So in Boston we will see a live band (Shiny Toy Guns), pop-up break dancers, DJ Clinton Sparks, and artists from Ad Hoc Art. AND, there will be a 10-seater “Dutch Beer Bike” direct from Amsterdam. The event starts at 7:30pm at Parris hall and continues until midnight.
Coming up soon is the BeerAdvocate gathering at The Tap in Haverhill. People can meet at the pub on Saturday, July 11 from 2 to 7pm. Head brewer Jon Curtis is brewing up some beers especially for this occasion, including a hearty Double IPA at 9%abv. On top of The Tap’s standards, they will be offering such delights as the 2008 Triskelion Barleywine, the Ascension Belgian IPA, the Helles Belles Munich Helles, and the many casks on tap.

More July events after the jump!
The Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, Vermont is putting on The Harpoon Championship of New England Barbecue. Forty teams will compete for money and trophies, but of course the visitors are the real winners, getting to try some BBQ, drink some good beer, and listen to some live music. The event is on Saturday, July 25, 12 to 8pm and Sunday, July 26, 12 to 5pm. The cost is $10, which includes a Harpoon beer or soda. Tickets are sold at the entrance only.
Atwoods Tavern in Inman Square is hosting a Prix Fixe beer dinner on July 28 from 6 to 9pm. The dinner will feature the Peak Organic Brewing Company. Peak brews with all organic barley and hops.
But speaking of barbecue, coming up on July 29 is one of the classic Redbones Keg Parties. This time California’s Bear Republic Brewing Company is the featured brewer. Beers like Racer Five and Hop Rod Rye are some of the best known of Bear Republic in this region. But to be sure, there will be more than just those at this party: 15 kegs and a cask!
So there is much coming up to enjoy this month. Should you know of any others, please let us know!
