Is Evil At Work In Boston?

The last thing Boston's political scene needs is some Karl Rove-style tactics injected to its already tension-filled campaign season. But, that's just what we've got from the folks at ChangeforBoston.org despite their alleged support for reforming what ails Boston.

Even the Herald, which normally never shies away using catchy phrases in its coverage, described ChangeforBoston.org as "vicious" and "anti-Menino". ChangeforBoston.org may or may not be vicious. It's certainly "anti-Menino," despite declaring itself "an unbiased venue" for electoral news. The site regularly updates a list dubbed the "Boston Politics Axis of Evil". Membership seems to depend on how close ChangeforBoston.org deems politicians to be to Menino. It's an entertaining idea, admittedly, despite ripping off George W. Bush, Rove and David Frum, the speechwriter who actually coined the phrase "Axis of Evil".

ChangeforBoston.org also has some handy survey questions like "If Thomas Menino Jr. Was a Boston Fire Firefighter, Would Mayor Menino Still Treat The Firefighters With Such Disrespect?" So much for unbiased. Someone will have to explain to Bostonist how wanting a legitimate drug-testing policy is disrespectful. Oh, speaking of rip-offs, Intel might not appreciate your "evil inside" logo.

Bostonist has no problem with a site like ChangeforBoston.org. Voters need information and should advocate for issues or candidates that matter to them. Just be open about it. Here's a test: ChangeforBoston.org recently blamed Mayor Menino for the closure of the Bay State Banner. Will they praise him for helping to keep it alive?

This site seems to bring the campaign down a few pegs. I have tried to post comments on the site a few times and only a select few have been posted. "Awaiting moderator overview" is what I get when posting anything remotely negative toward Flaherty. My comments are by no means offensive...unless posting an opinion against Michael Flaherty is offensive. Yet a post I wrote about Yoon made it up in just seconds. Wonder who really behind this site? I would guess Flaherty knows.

I just checked that site out. They did post a response already about the Banner.

i don't think such a polarizing site does anybody any good. sure, there may be a menino machine, and i support change as much as anyone. but isolating menino himself instead of focusing on the issues and analyzing what we could learn from government's failures (and successes, such as they may be) is as much of a disservice to boston as anything menino has done. if the system is really so corrupt, it won't do a lot of good to change just one person in it.
