Saturday Happenings

Sailing

-- The sun has been visiting town more frequently in time for the Boston Sailing Center's last open house of the season. No experience necessary to take a free ride in the Harbor. You might even want to sign up for discounted lessons. Boston Sailing Center, Lewis Wharf, 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Free.

The Art Beats On

-- Davis Square is closed to traffic due to a wonderful collision of music, art, dance, food, crafts, and activities. The theme is "Somerville...of the Future" which may be a version of robots and rockets where the Green Line extension is obsolete! Check out The Holey Moleys, The Dirty Truckers, and You Can Be a Wesley. Davis Square, Somerville, Noon to 6:00pm. $3 suggested donation.

Bard in Brighton, Part One

-- Summertime means outdoor Shakespeare productions. Although Publick Theatre is on hiatus, the Orfeo Group is performing a little bit of all his plays in "The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (abridged)" in their old spot by the Charles. It's a zany mash-up of the oeuvre performed by 3 people in about 90 minutes. Christian Herter Park, Brighton, 2:00pm & 6:45pm. $15.

Bard in Brighton, Part Two

-- We love that summer is also time for free Shakespeare productions. Don't wait until next month for Shakespeare in the Common. The Rebel Shakespeare Company, an intense teen Shakespeare camp from the North Shore, rock the teen angst in "Hamlet" in between Orfeo Group performances. Christian Herter Park, Brighton, 4:00pm. Free.

How's the Weather?

Jack White's latest side project, Dead Weather, includes members of The Kills and QotSA as well as The Raconteurs. This time Jack pretends to be Meg White and mainly plays the drums. It's a new permutation of the heady blues-rock with a chick singer sounding somewhat like Mr. White. House of Blues, 15 Lansdowne St., 8:00 pm. $29.
