The lazy days of August are here, and this week's music picks start out a bit slow. But never fear, because when the weekend's here, there's plenty of music to hear. Ok, now that the "bad rhyme" quota is fulfilled, here are this weeks concert highlights:
Monday, August 10th
Noisettes
w/Phantogram, DJ Carbo
Great Scott
This group of lads and a lady are all the rage in the U.K. Drop by Great Scott to find out just why the Brits think this band puts on one of the best shows on their side of the Atlantic.
Wednesday, August 12th
Chronic Sick
w/Mouth Sown Shut, Razors In The Night, Nothing But Enemies
Middle East Upstairs
It's an ole' fashioned ruff'n tumble hardcore show at the Middle East, headlined by Jersey's own Chronic Sick - a hardcore band right down to their name.
Thursday, August 13th
Bat For Lashes
w/Other Lives
The Paradise
Bats For Lashes headline this highly anticipated show at The Paradise. It may be anticipated in part due to the cancellation of this very gig a handful of months ago, but the album Two Suns has gotten so much adoration thrown its way, it's just impossible to resist the anxious wait.
Starlight Mints
w/Wye Oak, JP Inc
Middle East Upstairs
Indie act Starlight Mints may be headlining this show, but chances are Baltimore's Wye Oak may end up stealing the night with their sensual mix of acoustic finger-picking and shoegaze .
Thunderhole
w/Summerduck, Battle House, Tristan Da Cunha
O' Brien's
If it's metal and hard rock you're looking for - particularly of the Massachusetts-bred variety - O' Brien's is where it's at. Tonight features a wealth of up-and-comers including an appearance by the brand new and beloved Summerduck.
Friday, August 14th
NOMO
w/Dutty Artz
ICA
The ICA's Wavelengths series continues with what promises to be the highlight of its calendar. Afro-centric electronic funk group NOMO are joined by Dutty Artz, another DJ/rupture side-project that is sure to send the gig-goers dancing all night.
ONYX
w/Rite Hook, Beast, Mayhem, Mic Monarchy
Harper's Ferry
It's a night of 90s hip-hop when ONYX rolls into Harper's Ferry. It may not be a "Walk In New York," but Allston will certainly be bumping all night.
CKY
w/Graveyard, ASG, Fall From Grace
The Paradise
CKY are still around. Yep. No Jackass-affiliated things to speak of here...
Friday, August 14th - Sunday, August 16th
Weirdstock
w/Ducktails, Dreamhouse, Harmonizer (Greg Davis), Julian Lynch, Kurt Weisman, Keith Fullerton Whitman + Geoff Mullen Duo, Skeletons Out, Devil Music, Eat Cloud, Truman Peypte, Sore Eros, Lord Jeff, Cursillistas, Goat of Arms, Ricardo Donoso, Mudboy, Human Hairs, Cave Bears, QFWFQ Duo, Radio Wonderland, Many Mansions, Ophibre, Concord Ballet Orchestra Players, Peace, Loving, Metal and Glass Ensemble, Palm, Quilt, Omnivore, Duck That (Steve Norton), Son of Salami, Tooth Ache, Guatemala City + MORE!
Cambridge YMCA
Jamaica Plain's White House Family Record moves across town to celebrate their multi-annual musical extravaganza, Weirdstock. The weekend's festivities will be held in part to celebrate Woodstock's 40th anniversary, but Bostonist knows that the festival will do more to freak out the hippies of the 60s (aka the festival attendees' parents) than actually glorify their spirit.
