Transportation Woes Hit Bay State

Transportation is a big problem in Massachusetts. Let's recap, shall we?

We have traffic, of course, texting trolley drivers, tunnels that kill people, government officials more interested in a feud than what commuters pay for public transportation, near collisions at the airport, a rash of crashes with older drivers.

Did we miss something? Oh, right. Bridges.

The bridge operator allegedly found intoxicated on duty on Saturday at the Meridian Street bridge in East Boston has resigned, WCVB reported last night. The operator was susended before resigning. Channel 5 reported the operator's RMV record, includes three drunk-driving convictions and a four-year license suspension in 1999. WCVB's Janet Wu attempted to interview him, and got a series of non-responsive answers.

Should bridge operators be subject to random drug tests? Let us know. Firefighters should be, we know.
