JP Bowl
The Milky Way couldn't bring its candlepin lanes with it when it moved to its new location, which means that it's been a while since there's been any bowling in Jamaica Plain. And then came technology. Oui, we Wii is the virtual return of bowling to the Milky Way, courtesy of everybody's favorite Nintendo product. We just hope they bought the special New England edition with little pins and three chances per frame. Milky Way, 284 Amory St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
Showdowns
Last Tuesday, Bostonist stumbled upon the Alchemist's weekly String Quartet Showdown and we vowed to mention it today. Two string quartets vie for supremacy as they work their way through the Western canon and you drink beer, judging their every mistake. (Or paying attention only a quarter of the time, as the case may be.) Last week was heavy on the Schubert and the Mozart; maybe this week will be all Elliott Carter. Alchemist Lounge, 435 S. Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
Glitches
It's a night of IDM and other glitchy laptop music in the Fenway. Local experimental artists Nanocannon, Sosogutter, Sonolmoss, and Matt Lange will explore the possibility that music doesn't require melody, harmony, or a time signature. Church of Boston, 69 Kilmarnock St., Fenway, 7 p.m. $5.
