Smellovision
Somerville artists Megan Dickerson (of the Berwick Research Institute) and Bridget Matros (a supertaster) decided that Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) was great, but that it would be totally freaking awesome if you could smell it. Hence, Smellovision. Based on an old Hollywood gimmick—that also inspired John Waters—Smellovision brings you the tastes and smells of the Chocolate Factory, allowing you to "experience [the movie] with all of your senses." Presented by the Somerville Arts Council. Union Square, Somerville, 6 p.m. Free. More information.
Dancing By Yourself
The kids are all about silent raves these days, in which the music—and presumably, the rhythm—is all in your head. These things sound completely tedious to fogeys like us who went to actual raves, but we won't begrudge anybody their fun. (We might make fun of it, though.) Bring your iPod, we guess. Copley Square, 7:30 p.m. Free. More information.
Queer Dance Parties
Gross Anatomy, JP's biggest queer dance party, has changed names. It's now called "La Boum," but it still features DJ Stella, accompanied tonight by Shailah. If it's anything like the old party, expect a lot of tapered jeans jams. It's free, even for those who are straight and incognito. Bella Luna/Milky Way, 284 Amory St., Jamaica Plain. 9:00pm. Free.
