As we get back into the grind after a holiday weekend, let's catch up with some famous names in Boston sports. There's been so much coming and going and retiring going on as of late, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about who is doing what where. Leave it to your friendly neighborhood Bostonist to sort it all out.
Tedy Bruschi: Gearing Up for Television ESPN, picking up on the fact that a perfect player could also make a perfect TV guy, has welcomed New England's favorite linebacker into its family. Bruschi will be making ESPN's football coverage infinitely more awesome through television, radio and online work. Congrats to everyone who successfully predicted that Bruschi was going to transition from the field to booth.
Richard Seymour: MIA The news of Seymour's trade to Oakland left Patriots fans surprised on Sunday. One gets the impression today that it left the five-time Pro Bowl player and Patriots dynamo pretty pissed off. Citing "issues" between the Pats and Seymour, Raiders coach Tom Cable says Seymour's yet to make the trip to join what would be his new team. "Issues," of course, could easily be NFL-speak for "Richard Seymour can't freakin' believe the Patriots traded him to freakin' Oakland for a freakin' first round draft pick in 20-freakin'-11."
The Josh Beckett Sox Fans Love: Also MIA OK, so Beckett looked better than he has as of late during Sunday's final Sox-on-Sox showdown out in Chicago. He didn't give up any homers during Sunday's 5-1 loss at US Cellular, but he still wasn't looking like the Odd Year Beckett who's supposed to be terrifying batters into strikeouts. His fastball speed has diminished and he's making it awfully easy for batters to hit his stuff. He also didn't have the offense he needed to get a win. So there's that. Could he carry the same genetic quirk that affects Eric Bana in The Time Traveler's Wife? We're starting to wonder. Just sayin.
Dice-K: Almost Back to Boston One more rehab start and Dice-K's probably going to be back in Boston.
The Boston Red Sox Team Capable of Winning Games: Fenway Park They're back home. The Sox face off against the Orioles for a blink-and-you'll-miss-it two-game series that starts tonight. This could not have come at a better time.
