Sports Redux: Terrell Owens Wants You To Pay Attention To Him

terrellowens.jpg He's gone from the center of the football universe (well, Dallas, which is kind of the center of the football universe, at least until the playoffs start) to the little-regarded Bills. But Terrell Owens hasn't stopped talking. He's complaining about Buffalo's no-huddle offense, Twittering that he was just kidding, and keeping the jokes fresh. When asked if he had anything prepared for Monday Night's opener against the Patriots, T.O. said, "I might bring my spy camera!" Just think of all the weeks Owens has been patiently waiting to play the Pats so he can bust that one out. Wait until you hear his devilish take on the Macarena.

That's right; it's Opening Weekend in the NFL. The Steelers kick things off tonight, as the defending champs now do every Opening Thursday. The Globe goes out on the line and says the Patriots need a healthy Tom Brady to compete in the AFC. For what it's worth, they also rounded up everybody's preseason predictions for the 2009 Pats. We'll go on record as saying 13-3 (just don't ask us to predict which 3) and a trip to the Super Bowl. Then we'll see what happens then.

The Red Sox didn't pummel Baltimore last night the way they did on Tuesday, but they got the job done. Paul Byrd gave them five decent innings, then Victor Martinez came off the bench to deliver a three-run pinch-hit double to give Country Time Wagner his first Boston win. The boys get the day off today before the Rays come to town.

It wasn't a great day for Melanie Oudin. She lasted longer in the U.S. Open than her hotel reservation was prepared for, and then the 17-year-old tennis sensation was booted out in the quarterfinals by Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki. It's sad to see an out-of-nowhere story come to an end, but anything that gets tennis back on our radar screen is a good thing. And believe us, rooting for Caroline Wozniacki's not going to be so hard, either.
