Carnival
It's the annual Cambridge Carnival International, which means awesome floats, brain-melting outfits, blaring reggae and soca music, and amazing Caribbean food from the four corners of greater Boston. Kendall Square, Cambridge, noon to 7 p.m. Free. More information.
Carnival en Français
Rescheduled from yesterday, La Grande Fête is Union Square, Somerville's Haitian festival. It's sort of like the Cambridge Carnival except smaller and in French. Be prepared for live music, poetry, and a documentary or two about the Haitian experience. Union Square, Somerville, 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free. More information.
Gardening
FensFest is the public's opportunity to enjoy the many Victory Gardens in the Back Bay Fens. The gardeners will offer you barbecue as they give each other awards. Live music from Toby Tobias and The "David Ehle Guitar Trio Plus." Fenway Victory Gardens, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free.
Sketching
Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School life drawing sessions continue with lovely Can Can Revolution dancer Kitty Fox. Great Scott, 1222 Comm. Ave., Allston, 2:30 p.m. $8.
Booze
Cachaça isn't illegal, exactly, but some folks are sick of hearing it called "Brazilian rum." What's the difference? Rum is made from molasses; cachaça is made from pure cane juice. To underscore the point, the spirit's adherents have organized a bar crawl featuring a load of cocktail specials and "Brazilian good times," which we assume doesn't refer to any waxing procedures. Various bars, 5:30 p.m. onward. Schedule can be found here.
