Cute in a Stupid Ass Way
We'd never have called it, in the 90s, but the members of Deerhoof have become elder statesmen of indie rock. It's the band's spazz rock with weird time signatures, lots of starts and stops, and a cutesy approach to dissonance that the kids find so appealing, but we, naturally, liked the band better when it didn't know how to play its instruments. Middle East Downstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8 p.m. $14.
Hip Hop
Busdriver, an underrated MC from LA, makes rap that Sun Ra would understand. It's been a few years since Boston got all racist on him, but we notice that he's still playing his shows in Cambridge. Middle East Upstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8 p.m. $10.
Art School Shenanigans
Beat Research presents Cyclevision, a bunch of MassArt kids in biker shorts who throw together broken beats and broken video "for a sensory overload experience that is mad fun to behold." The Enormous Room, 567 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 9 p.m. Free. More information.
