It's Always Sunny in... Boston? "The Nightman Cometh" Tonight

We don't normally gush over the weather, but since Saturday's debacle it's actually been reasonably nice in town. At 8:30 tonight, the sun may have set but the Sunny will just be beginning, as the stars of the highly uncouth comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia bring their musical The Nightman Cometh to Boston's House of Blues. This is the first night of a multi-city tour that hits NYC and Philly Wednesday and Thursday, then goes west to Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles next week.

The TV show follows the adventures of four friends who own a bar in Philly and have a tendency to get into questionable situations. Whether stealing babies, wrecking immigrants' homes, huffing glue, abusing crippled priests, or pooping the bed, the characters never fail to find hilarity in horror. Last season, semi-illiterate bathroom cleaner, long johns wearer, and Waitress fanatic Charlie crafted a musical (watch the making of!) based on his song "Nightman." ("Dayman" has somewhat simpler and less terrifying lyrics, but an innocuous song probably never made for an interesting musical, anyway.) We do sometimes pine for the old Dylanesque Nightman, but the fancy, full-fledged musical is sure to be as much of a hit on stage as it was on screen.

The show sold out almost instantly, and everybody wants tickets, which are going for various prices on craigslist: $140, $100, or $150 for two. If money is no object, you can get $400 tickets on StubHub (!!!). Should purchasing or scalping tickets fail, you can always get Season 4 on DVD so you can appreciate the show in its original progression rather than five episodes at a time on Hulu.

The fifth season of Sunny premieres Thursday on FX.

  • it has the regular cast from the video!

  • Rick Sawyer
