Boston MonkeyWatch: Metallica Soothes the Mighty Tamarin

Good news from the world of science. The adorable but feisty cottontop tamarin is totally metal. Researchers at the University of Maryland, who were trying to replicate tamarin calls on a cello, discovered that, of all the human music they played a group of the apes, only Metallica elicited a reaction. And it made them chill out.

No word on whether or not the tamarins thought Master of Puppets was an uninspired retread of Ride the Lightning, but we have our fingers crossed that they weren't listening too closely to the lyrics of "Damage, Inc." We don't need any tamarins deciding that "dying time is here."

Boston has its fair share of tamarins. The Museum of Science has a family of the strange homunculan creatures, and the Franklin Park Zoo has a few as well. Let's take a look at some of their favorite Metallica moments.
